What began in 1973 as a proposal to the city council is now a 30 acre green jewel in Atlanta's cultural crown.
The Botanical Gardens have many permanent installations of breathtaking works of sculpted nature including an Orchid Garden, an indoor rainforest, a Japanese garden, and many gargantuan statues of carefully grown and arranged plants. It's a bucket-list item for anyone who has yet to visit.
Founded as Atlanta Cemetery in 1850, Oakland Cemetery was given its name in 1872 to reflect the many oaks and magnolias that grow nearby. Here, you'll find exquisite works of sculpture, magnificent mausoleums, Kenny Roger's grave, as well as many other titans of southern history! Admission is free and highly encouraged.
